Our Texas–themed evening at Kent Rathbun’s, Jasper’s was structured as follows:
• Step One: Choose five fine TEXAS wines.
• Step Two: Challenge a talented chef to create the perfect food pairings.
Austin Chaîne members were intrigued by the invitation to sample some of the highest rated Texas wines from a few of its 215 wineries. As is often the case with young endeavors, many of the initial Texas offerings were a little underqualified and mildly overpriced so that even Austinites were somewhat skeptical. But we are skeptical no longer! After all, our wines won 164 medals last year in out of state competitions, up from six in 1984. Executive Chef DustinPustka’s menu with its many locally sourced ingredients and his native Texas flair enhanced the showcased wines. We were also honored to attract members from as far away as Shreveport, Louisiana and Cabo San Lucas to share in this fine event.
